Anxious? This Is Why You Need Certain Levels Of Stress!
You need struggle.
Especially if you find yourself suffering with things like anxiety or depression.
Let me explain, and I'm going to get a little philosophical, so stick with me...
Chronic struggle can be bad, controlled doses of struggle can be the best thing for you.
Growing up, I had the chronic struggle of poverty in the UK.
My family and I relied on food banks, donated clothes, I had to cycle and walk places because we had no bus fare, etc.
This contributed to lots of depression and anxiety in my teenage years.
That's because it was a chronic struggle and I had very little possibility to give myself controlled doses of struggle.
What I mean by that is day in day out I constantly faced the same issues (chronic struggle) without the possibility to change my situation (controlled doses of struggle).
I couldn't get a job because any money I earned would be taken off my parents benefits money and we'd be worse off.
I didn't have the space nor resources to grow or farm food.
And I definitely couldn't produce my own clothes from scratch.
I just had to deal with it until I could go to university and move out.
One of the main factors in resolving my anxiety and depression as a teenager was my eventual ability to change my situation.
I had the ability to give myself controlled doses of struggle.
It wasn't fun, but if I studied hard in my degree, got a job and worked hard, by the time I finished university I could live in my own place and move out of poverty.
In creating possibilities for myself, I had the ability to overcome my chronic struggle.
And in my opinion, that's how humans operate best.
We need a certain level of exposure to struggle.
Put a human in a cage with no possibilities of escape and most will wither away with a broken soul.
Give that same human a file and some water, they likely won't have time to feel anxious or depressed because they're focusing so intently on the task at hand.
Breaking out of the cage.
They're being driven by a controlled dose of struggle.
They could choose to not use the file and to not drink the water, ultimately to give into their situation.
Everyone has that possibility.
Take action, give your self different options and dose yourself on controlled amounts struggle, or give in to chronic struggle and have no other options.
By no means am I saying this is the cure to mental health and the resolution to all of your problems,
But over time, there are very few people who won't feel better for conquering workouts one at a time.
The human brain is designed to overcome struggle and stay busy.
If you're not going to the gym and pushing yourself to a good 7-8/10 each time you're here, there's a plan to be put in place and progress to be made!
